10 Black Celebrity Kids Were All Proud Of

Publish date: 2024-06-29

Right before our eyes, many children of black celebrities have become stylish stars, some even surpassing their parents. We’ve also seen plenty of them steal the shine from the red carpet without even breaking a sweat. While some of them followed in the footsteps of their equally famous parents, others decided to forge their own path in another sector of the entertainment industry. Either way, they are obviously doing a great job that we are all proud of.

From a different angle, we still have young black celebrities who weren’t lucky enough to have fame passed down from their parents. The members of this group rose to prominence by realizing their dreams and mainly with the support of their parents.

From Jaden Smith to Blue Ivy Carter, here are some of our favorite black celebrity kids who also became paparazzi favorites.

10 children of black celebrities

1. Zoe Kravitz

With a long line of artists in his family, Kravitz already had his work cut out as a child. She is the daughter of rock star and actor Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, an accomplished actress. Zoë Isabella Kravitz started her acting career with her role in the movie, although she found her from the day she was born. No bookings in 2007. She then starred in other blockbusters to critical acclaim.

Zoë is also a model and has worked with major brands like Elle and Venus Zine on different campaigns. In 2009, she was the face of Vera Wang’s Princess perfume. Young Kravitz is also part of a band called Lolawolf. The group is doing pretty well, with artists like Miley Cyrus and more. Obviously Lenny and Lisa are proud of their daughter and so are we.

2. Cordell Broadus

Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg shares the Spotlight on his son, who at the age of 20 has already launched a major modeling campaign with MCM Worldwide and another with Kenneth Cole. Cordell may not be lucky enough to fall in love with his famous dad, but he’s definitely going to make a role model out of him.

3. Blue Ivy Carter

Mini Queen Bey is a black celebration of children’s goals. One of the benefits of being the daughter of mega superstars is that the world can easily become your stage. With parents such as pop icon Beyonce and rap legend Jay Z, Blue quickly rose to stardom and made her way into many hearts around the world with her innocent and adorable enthusiasm.

Born on January 7, 2012, the little angel might not thrive in any particular profession, but giving her time, she will surely exploit the already innate prospects in her. For now, we’re enjoying the heartwarming moments we came to share with the social media darling.

4.Jaden Smith

A spitting image of his father, both in appearance and career, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, the son of Hollywood heavyweights – Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith has truly made us proud. He’s one of those black celebrity kids that we can’t imagine in the entertainment industry without them. Jaden is currently following the same path as his father as an American actor, rapper, singer, and songwriter. He made his film debut in Pursuit of Happiness alongside his father and, is also popular for his appearances in top movies like The Karate Kid, Getting Him Down, After Earthand much more. Jaden also made us proud in the music industry, he released his self-titled album (Syre) in 2017.

When it comes to fashion, Jaden Smith has always left us salivating every time he makes a public appearance. His fashion sense is out of this world (the handsome boy has already walked the red carpet wearing his own hair). It’s really unclear what he’s going to do next, but sure, it’ll be awesome.

5.Sofia Richie

She might have a hard time convincing people. She’s black because of her very fair skin and hair, but her exploits in the fashion industry speak for themselves. Born to legendary crooner Lionel Richie, Sofia decided to carve out her own niche as a model instead of following in dad’s footsteps. She has worked with top brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Chanel, etc.

6. Genesis Tennon

Adopted by award-winning Hollywood star Viola Davis and her husband Julius Tennon in 2011, Genesis doesn’t need blood ties to follow in her parents’ footsteps. Viola is quite a role model for her cute daughter who confessed that she wants to be an actress because her mom is awesome at her job. Cute as a button, Genesis was three years old when she played her first role in the James Brown biopic Ride on in 2014. She appeared alongside her mother who also directed. These two are a match made in heaven.

7. Selah Marley

She’s the next Marley to watch. Selah is a heartwarming image of her multifaceted musician and standout mother, Lauryn Hill. She is also the daughter of Rohan Marley and the granddaughter of Bob Marley. Young Marley dabbled in modeling and singing and we’re not surprised she killed them all. Selah is perfectly gifted on both sides of her family.

8. Willow Smith

She is the daughter of Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as the younger sister of Jaden Smith. But if you think she’s riding the wave of her family’s fame, think again. Willow Camille Reign Smith is an American singer, actress and dancer who has already achieved a lot in her teenage years.

Her film debut was in 2007’s I Am Legend with her father. Her musical side came through later in 2010 when she released her singles Whip My Hair and 21st Century Girl with the former peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and her video chasing a video nomination for the year at the 2011 BET Awards. She is currently signed to Roc Nation, her Jay-Z label, as the youngest person to join the company to date.

9. John David Washington

A closer look at the HBO Ballers cast would reveal a familiar face, starring alongside Dwayne Johnson in the comedy series. John David Washington is the son of famous Hollywood actor Denzel Washington. Apparently an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. John first played college football at Morehouse before turning professional. His professional journey as a running back began in 2006 when he signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams as an unsigned free agent. He also spent four seasons with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.

The acting virus soon bit John Washington who began to follow in his father’s footsteps. His roles as Ricky Jerret in Ballers and Detective Ron Stallworth in the 2018 film BlacKkKlansman are just a few of his popular stints. The young Washington has also starred in other notable films and if his dad’s portfolio in the industry has anything to do with it, we can expect bigger things from him in the near future.

10. Skai Jackson

While most famous kids tap into the mainstream of their already famous parents, Skai Jackson is her own trailblazer. We can’t resist naming her one of the kids of black celebrities that we’ve become proud of for our accomplishments in the entertainment industry.

In her early days as a child model, the little leatherette had the support of her parents, but they are not known in the industry, which allows us to say that she got to where she is today thanks to her adorable charm and talent. Born in 2002, Skai started out as a child model and appeared in a slew of national commercials. In 2007, she appeared in her first notable role as an actress, playing the role of Destiny in the independent film at the age of 3. Liberty Kid. Since then, she has acted in other series and films, including Save Me (2008), The Rebound (2009), Arthur (2011) and The Smurfs(2011). But then the role that made him public was as Zuri Ross on the Disney Channel sitcom Jessie which ran from 2011 to 2015.

Aside from the above, a lot of other black celebrity kids pop up from time to time and make us really proud. A quick cry for the singer’s daughter Syria, who doesn’t look like her mother but has a voice similar to the sensational songbird; and Tichina Arnold’s daughter, Alijah Kai Haggins, who has an amazing voice, just like her mother.

Being born to famous parents doesn’t guarantee automatic success and that’s one of the reasons we’re proud of those children of black celebrities who took advantage of the opportunity created by their parents to build their own careers. In a few years, they will undoubtedly take over the world of entertainment.
