2022 American Music Awards Nominations Announced With Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, & The W
LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – The 2022 American Music Award (AMA) nominees have been announced, with Bad Bunny (8 nods), Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Drake (6 nods each), and Adele, Harry Styles, and The Weeknd (5 nods each). The ceremony will air live from LA’s Microsoft Theater on Sunday (November 20) on ABC.
Bad Bunny picked up his first AMA nomination for Artist of the Year, where he’ll face all of the artists named above. Swift has taken home the biggest artist award of the night a record six times. Should Adele or The Weeknd take home the artist of the year prize, it would be their first win in that category. Should Styles win in the category, it would mark his first win as a solo artist and third overall (Two wins with One Direction).
Additionally, Bad Bunny is also nominated for favorite touring artist, favorite music video, favorite male pop artist, favorite pop album, favorite male Latin artist, favorite Latin album, and favorite Latin song. If Bad Bunny sweeps all eight categories, he will tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for most awards won in a single evening.
Beyoncé and Swift are the most-nominated female artists at this year’s show. The two industry powerhouses will face off in three categories including artist of the year, favorite female pop artist and favorite pop album.
Many acts received their first AMA nominations this year, including Jack Harlow and Tems (4 nods each), Latto, BlackPink, Anitta, and Swedish House Mafia. Elton John set a record for the awards’ longest-recognized act with two nods. John was nominated for Top Pop/Rock Male at the first AMAs back in 1974.
There are some new categories this year including favorite K-Pop artist, favorite Afrobeats artist, favorite rock song, and favorite rock album.
The AMA winners are voted entirely by fans. Nominees are based on key fan interactions including streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay and tour grosses. Measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partner Luminate, in the eligibility period of September. 24, 2021, through September 22, 2022.
