Centred Outdoors' eighth season started with the annual 'Family Fishing Picnic' in Centre County on Sunday.

The 10th annual 'Family Fishing Picnic' took place at Tussey Mountain Pond in Boalsburg, and featured food and different activities, like learning how to fish and identifying different bugs.

Centred Outdoors says that its mission is to provide guided adventures at outdoor destinations throughout Centre County. They say events like the picnic on Sunday have a little something for everyone, and all of their events and tours are completely free of charge.

Centred Outdoors is a program of Clearwater Conservancy, a non-profit organization that works to conserve and restore natural resources across central Pennsylvania.

Hazel Stryker is the co-chair of the picnic and says Centred Outdoors and Trout Unlimited partnered eight years ago to join them in hosting the annual picnic.

“We both had the same goals and it was a great way to get people thinking about being outdoors for the summer months," said Stryker. “One of our goals is to just encourage people to consider conservation," she continued.

Donnan Stoicovy is on the ClearWater Conservancy board of directors and says events like the 'Family Fishing Picnic' have only continued to grow.

“Each year it’s growing, and we have more and more people coming to our events and being part of getting in the outdoors and the diversity of people has increased both at this event and at our hikes, so it’s nice to see people trying things that they haven’t done," said Stoicovy.

Starting next Sunday, Centred Outdoors says they will offer guided outings every Sunday and Thursday, beginning with Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte next Sunday, June 9.
