Va. man arrested in connection to Mount Union double murder, cold case
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith has announced the arrest of a Virginia man in connection to a 13-year-old cold case/double murder in Mount Union.
Authorities say Morico Johnson, 47, of Newport News, Virginia, was arrested earlier this week and charged with two counts of criminal homicide in the shooting deaths of 31-year-old Beatrice Daniels and her 22-year-old niece Christine McWhorter in January of 2009.
Police say the two women were found shot in the head while lying in bed inside their residence at the Chestnut Terrace Apartment Complex.
In 2016, authorities were able to use new DNA technology to release a description of the suspect.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police interviewed Johnson in 2019, at which time he submitted a sample of his DNA.
Investigators say Johnson's DNA matched blood DNA that was recovered at the scene of the murders.
Authorities say Johnson will be extradited to Huntingdon County to be arraigned on the homicide charges.
