Ex-Bad Boy Producer D-Dot Angers J Dilla Fans With Catalog Claim
Former Bad Boy Records producer Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie has ruffled the feathers of J Dilla fans by claiming he has a better catalog than the late rap legend.
Appearing on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, the NYC native said: “I love J Dilla to death, but he can’t see my catalog.”

D-Dot — who was a member of the Hitmen production team and co-produced hits like Biggie‘s “Hypnotize,” Diddy‘s “It’s All About the Benjamins” and JAY-Z‘s “Where I’m From” — went on to compare himself to NBA legend Karl Malone.
“Put their shit up against mine. My shit is all over the place. Shit I made 27 years ago,” he added.
D-Dot’s comments sparked a spirited debate on social media, with many Hip Hop fans taking issue with his claim that his catalog outshines that of J Dilla, who crafted iconic beats for A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul and more while innovating Hip Hop production.
One X (formerly Twitter) user said: “This a nutass stance to have on Dilla as a n-gga who used to have other n-ggas ghost producer for you.”

Veteran Hip Hop journalist Dart Adams also responded by saying: “He called his publishing ‘Crazy Cat Catalogue’ & lemme tell ya, this cat IS crazy for saying Dilla’s back catalogue doesn’t body his.
“You had a young Kanye ghost produce for you. You were a Hitman for Bad Boy. You were in Two Kings In A Cipher. You’ll never be James Dewitt Yancey.”

Producer Harry Fraud also chimed in by adding: “Dilla slander will not be tolerated.”
Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire defended D-Dot by saying: “But please tell me what Dilla beat was more poppin than ‘All About The Benjamins’. I’m not gon tell Detroit Fabolous is better than Blade Icewood. Don’t say Dilla was more poppin than D Dot. That’s biiiiiggggg [cap] not enough backpacks in the world.”

He added: “Ummm D Dot changed the way the entire genre sounded and dominated our entire childhood. Are u serious? U telling me Dilla was more impactful than Biggie? In YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD? Bro stop it. What Dilla was playing at Von King park in the Summer? Y’all trying to erase history.”
