Dry ice factory to bring more than 60 jobs to Clearfield County
CLEARFIELD - Job applications are currently being accepted for a dry ice facility being built in Clearfield County.
Continental Carbonic Products Inc. announced they'd be building a high-capacity liquid CO2 and dry ice manufacturing facility next to the PGP ethanol plant in September 2016.
"Dry ice is a form of solidified carbon dioxide, it's used in primarily food applications for keeping food cold," plant manager David Schultz said. "It's also used in the pharmaceutical and automotive industry. We also make a product that's used for blasting ice as well as cleaning products."
The location on Technology Drive West in Clearfield Borough will be the company's ninth facility, with its dry ice going primarily to the East Coast.
Schultz said they'll also supply dry ice for pork and poultry farms in Pennsylvania and New York.
"This area has been economically depressed for quite a while with the lack of jobs and the ability to bring new clients in," Schultz said.
The facility will provide 65 to 75 full-time jobs for the Clearfield community, including CDL truck drivers, laborers and operators.
"We've participated in four different job fairs since the early part of March throughout Clearfield and Elk counties," Schultz said. "We'll also have another job fair here at the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center on May 4."
Schultz said he expects the facility to be delivering dry ice by the end of summer.
