Explosive House Fire At Berlin Home Claims Elderly Woman's Life: Officials

Berlin Fire responded to the explosion at 71 Pleasant Street in Berlin around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, April 14, the Department of Fire Services (DFS) reports. 

Upon arrival, firefighters saw a two-story home that had sustained "catastrophic damage" with heavy fire showing, DFS said. 

An older woman, later identified as Judy Christensen, was found dead inside the house while her daughter was taken to the hospital for treatment, NBC10 Boston reports. 

The origin and cause of the fire and explosion are under investigation, DFS said.
