Game of Thrones season 9 release is happening after all. Or at least, that’s what George RR Martin seems to have hinted in his recent interview.

Game of Thrones Season 8 is the final season of the show. Having come out two years after the seventh season, the wait for this has been long. However, George R.R. Martin, whose books inspired the show, has now hinted at the possibility of Game of Thrones Season 9!

Let us take a closer look at what Martin said and if that really means that there’s going to be a Game of Thrones season 9.

Game of Thrones Season 9: Is it Really Happening?

No one really knows the answer to whether a GoT season 9 is going to come out apart from HBO and the showrunners. Here’s the statement from George R.R. Martin

“I don’t think it should be the final season. But here we are. It seems to me we just started last week. Has it been longer than that? The time has passed by in a blur. But it’s exciting. I know it’s an end, but it’s not much of an end for me.”

Martin’s statement can be interpreted in different ways. He might be referring to the Game of Thrones spin-off which is almost certain to air in a year or two from now. Moreover, Martin might also be referring to the two books which are yet to release in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, on which the show is based. Martin’s next books ‘Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’ are all set to be the final books in the series.

Game of Thrones Spin-Off To Air After Show Ends

Moreover, a spin-off series which will showcase the events that took place thousands of years before the events of the current timeline in Game of Thrones is also going to come out soon. Maybe this is what Martin was referring to instead of Game of Thrones season 9.
