Johnstown Symphony Orchestra puts on annual July Fourth concert for thousands
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) -- The rain held off Wednesday night and thousands of people packed into Point Stadium for some great music and fireworks to cap off the night.
It's the biggest Fourth of July celebration in Johnstown.
"Do you guys want any flags?" asked Tessia Robison, as people walked through the main entrance.
Members of the Johnstown Youth Symphony Orchestra were tasked with handing out flags, as thousands of people settlesettled into the stands.
"Last year when we were sitting here, we had such a great time, that we said this is going to be our new tradition," said Patricia Gable.
The music resonated throughout Point Stadium, led by music director James Blachly.
"Music is what brings people together, so the Johnstown Symphony has the unique role of providing this great party," Blachly said.
"Today's the birthday, so we're here to celebrate,” Margaret Minor said. “And we're all glad that we live in the United States of America."
Everyone celebrated with great music from the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, and the musicians who made it happen are proud to be a part of it.
"It's really wonderful seeing all the different age groups come together," percussionist Mike Vatavuk said.
"I think it's great that we can do things like this where anybody can come," bass player Richard Auvil said.
People of all ages enjoyed the music, but also honored those who currently serve and have served in the armed forces, the reason this country continues to have its independence.
"There's nothing like the Fourth of July to bring people together and celebrate,” Blachly said.
