Jones Family Farms Offers One Last Day For Picking Blueberries In Shelton
The fields will be open for picking at the Valley Farm from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For those looking to cool off, a Summer Wine Down activity will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Homestead Farm. The winery is also open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, and offers a different sangria each Friday.
After Friday, the bumper crop of the violet-hued treats will be gone for 2016.
“Obviously, Mother Nature decides when the season ends,” Tom Harbinson, facilities and infrastructure manager for the Shelton farm, said last week.
Jones has been welcoming guests to harvest blueberries for more than 40 years. Packed with nutrients and a sweet, mild taste, they’re the perfect antidote for the dog days of summer.
Jones’ charges by the pound for blueberries. If you pick more than eight pounds, the price is $3.49 a pound. Less than eight pounds will run you $4.29 a pound.
