Kansas City's Grand Emporium To Reopen August 6
(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Kansas City's blues oriented club Grand Emporium closed on Memorial Day and is reopening August 6 with a two-day booking of Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band. The club closed the pending sale to Stuart Salomon, B.J. Klein and Jon Lunkwicz.
“We're going to continue to bring quality blues to Kansas City,” Lunkwicz told the Kansas City Star. “The other thing we want to do is use the Grand Emporium to develop acts so we can play them later at the Beaumont — you know, the bigger the better."
The Grand Emporium has also undergone a renovation
“As far as the décor, we've really cleaned it up a lot, which some people are going to be mad at us for,” new GE manager Karl Shikles told the Star. “But hopefully most people won't.”
“The bathrooms are almost finished,” Lunkwicz adds. “It took two weeks to clean 'em.”
Other bookings include Yellowman, Trent Sumner & New Row Mob, Gamble Brothers, Shane Henry, Innervisions, the Red Elvises, Chris Duarte, Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials and El Vez. –Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
