Multiple nests spotted in Cambria County as bald eagle population continues to recover

America’s bird is showing up more, mostly in parts of Cambria County. Experts tell me this is an important time to respect their space.

"It seems like almost every day you’re getting a report of either activity of possible nesting, or of a confirmed nest. It’s a great opportunity for people to see and enjoy wildlife, but ultimately, we don’t want people approaching the nest.” says PA Game Warden, Seth Mesoras.

A Pennsylvania State Game Warden says many new bald eagle nests are being reported, across the commonwealth. He says this trend is moving in the same direction, with population recovery, of the birds.

One of the new nests is situated in suburban Johnstown. Officials say having a nest this close to an urban area, is uncommon. That's why they highlight proper nest etiquette guidelines.

This includes staying around 1 thousand feet away from the nest, and to use binoculars, a lens, or camera, to see them closer.
