Windber man accused of harassing, groping woman who was walking her dog
WINDBER, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Windber Borough say a local man is facing charges following an alleged incident of harassment over the weekend.
Police say around 9 a.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Somerset Avenue for a reported indecent assault.
According to the affidavit, police say the victim was out walking her dog when she allegedly noticed a male, in close proximity, who was "making her feel uneasy."
Police say the woman stated that she reportedly lost sight of the man for a short time, prior to him walking up behind her and grabbing her shoulder.
Authorities say the man also reportedly grabbed the woman's buttocks before running off.
Police say the man then reportedly fled in the direction of the Windber Borough Office and was captured on nearby surveillance cameras.
Authorities say the suspect was later identified as 19-year-old Thai Numjun, after video reportedly showed him walking into a nearby Sheetz store.
Police say when they questioned Numjun about the incident, he reportedly stated that "he felt that the woman was concerned about him watching her."
Police add that he also allegedly admitted to walking approximately 1 to 2 feet behind her and then running away when she "screamed."
Authorities say Numjun claimed that he did not touch her but stated that his sweatshirt might have "grazed" her buttocks.
Police also noted that, despite social media speculation, the incident was not investigated as an attempted abduction.
According to online court records, Numjun faces misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and harassment.
