St. Augustine Getting Ready For Six-Day Festival
OSSINING, N.Y. St. Augustine's Church is getting ready for its 34th annual Italian Festival, which will feature Italian-American food, rides, games, fireworks and more.
The six-day festival will take place July 19 through July 24 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 381 North Highland Avenue.
"We're hoping for good weather. That's something we can't control," said Joan Pires, the parish office manager.
The festival is the church's major fundraiser for the year, Pires said. It generally brings in between $90,000 and $110,000, with about 2,000 people coming to the festival each night.
The festival has an Italian theme because years ago, St. Augustine's Catholic parish was primarily Italian, Pires said. Zeppoles, sausage and pepper wedges, cannolis and hot dogs are typical foods sold at the festival.
"We were an Italian parish and St. Ann's was Irish," Pires said. "Now we're everything. You name it, we have it."
Festival rides provided by Blue Sky Amusements are expected to be set up at St. Augustine's on Monday. Fireworks displays presented by Garden State Fireworks are scheduled for July 20 and July 24. There will also be games, a casino, a White Elephant sale and DJs.
