Three Cortlandt Employees Earn More Than Supervisor

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Three of the Town of Cortlandt’s highest paid employees will earn over $25,000 more than the Town Supervisor, Linda Puglisi, in 2012. The town gave contractual employees a 1.5 percent salary increase in 2012, after a salary freeze in 2011. The town is still negotiating union contracts.

"It's an honor and a privilege to serve as Cortlandt's Town Supervisor," said Puglisi in her recent swearing-in speech for her 11th term as supervisor. "I am grateful to the wonderful people in our community who have placed their trust in me over the past 20 years and now for this next term to be supervisor and steward of our local government."

Elected officials haven’t taken a salary increase in two years. When Puglisi was initially elected Town Supervisor in 1992 she rolled back the supervisor’s salary by $9,000, from $72,000 to $63,000 and for five years did not accept a salary increase. In 2010 and 2011, she also did not take salary increases. 

The three highest paid employees in the Town of Cortlandt in terms of salary are Glenn Cestaro, Town Comptroller, at $147,333, Edward Vergano, Town Engineer, at $145,391 and Director of the Department of Environmental Services Jeffrey Coleman at $147,175. 

Supervisor Linda Puglisi will earn $120,766 in salary in 2012. As a point of comparison, the supervisor for the Town of Yorktown, Michael Grace, will earn $112,095 in 2012, Croton Village Manager Abraham Zambrano will earn $160,000 in 2012, and Buchanan Village Administrator Kevin Hay will earn $79,202 in 2012. Hay also serves as village treasurer and clerk in Buchanan.
