WILKINSBURG, Pa. -- Five people are confirmed dead and another three are injured after a shooting in a neighborhood outside of Pittsburgh just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The incident happened on the 1300 block of Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg during some sort of party or cookout in the backyard.
Three women and one man were killed and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Three others were taken from the scene in ambulances and one of them died at the hospital.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identified the victims as 35-year-old Jerry Shelton, 37-year-old Tina Shelton, 27-year-old Brittany Powell, 25-year-old Chanetta Powell and 26-year-old Shada Mahone, WPXI-TV reported.
"It looks like right now they were all fleeing toward the back door of the residence when the second gunman fired from the side of the yard and they all seemed to get caught on the back porch," Lt. Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny County Homicide Unit said.
Two gunmen were involved but no one was taken into custody and a motive was not immediately known.
Wilkinsburg was trending on Twitter in Pittsburgh throughout the day Thursday with many people outraged by the shootings.
