When Will Bo Wake Up and Return With Hope?
The Brady family has come and gone a few times over the years on Days of Our Lives, but with Shawn’s recent exit to go to rehab near his parents, it’s sadly just shrunk once again. Bo’s in a coma, while Hope waits by his side. Ciara, Ben and little Bo are also, apparently over there, while Claire is offscreen and Belle’s about to be the same.
But just as it seemed that Bo and his family have just about been wiped out, Peter Reckell gave us a little hope when he and Kristian Alfonso talked with Christine Taylor and David Lascher for their podcast, Hey Dude… The 90’s Called!
It may not be today and it may not be tomorrow, but as Days of Our Lives rapidly comes up on its 60th anniversary, Reckell is all in for a return. “It looks like the kind of thing I’d like to get back in,” he shared. “Especially when this anniversary of the show’s coming up, it’d be great to be a part of it.”
Hopefully, we could get a bit of a build to see Bo back on our screens before the 60th anniversary, but either way, we’ll take it! With that said, if Bo returns, Hope may not be coming with him.
“I think Kristian’s a little quiet over there,” Reckell noted after saying he’d love to come back. And when Lascher noted that when it comes to soap opera returns, you should never say never, Alfonso hedged that a bit with a, “Well…”

In the end, it all comes down to respecting history, she explained. That’s a big reason why she left the sudser to begin with.
“I am one who likes to be honest as far as the history of the characters,” Alfonso told the hosts, “and I did not see that happening. I’m not going to lie in my performance or try to sell something that did not happen.”
She then went on to explain how she used to keep stacks of old scripts around in her dressing room to have on hand and keep track of Hope’s history.
“When we get new writers, sometimes they weren’t always familiar with the show,” she explained. “And that was one of the reasons why I had started saving my scripts, so I could go back and go, ‘Hey, listen, I know you want me to say “X, Y and Z” in this long monologue, but this never happened. It doesn’t track. But it tracks on this page, this show, which was 100 shows ago.’”
The audience, she explained, will remember and they’ll know if something tracks with history and is authentic or not. Deviating from that too much just isn’t fair to them.
“We have a very smart audience,” Alfonso noted. “There were storylines that I did not agree with and the directions that they were taking because it was not honest with who Hope was or what she endured.”
As Reckell put it, “You’ve got to respect the audience. If you’re not respecting, they’ll leave, especially now that they have to pay for Peacock.”
“It’s all about quality,” Alfonso agreed. “The history is what it is.”

In the world of daytime, “Never say never” is certainly a mantra to live by. After all, we never thought we’d be seeing Hope again after her departure, but she came back to welcome Bo back to life. But while that didn’t quite end with happiness, it looks like if the show ever continues the story, if the history isn’t there, it may be without Alfonso.
