Worker seriously hurt in Michigan trench collapse, officials say
PORTAGE, Mich. (WWMT) — A man was seriously hurt when he became trapped when a trench collapsed while he was working at a construction site in Michigan Friday.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at Mercantile Bank on W. Centre St. in Portage in an effort to rescue the single worker, a man in his thirties.
According to officials, his head was above the ground, and he was breathing slowly.
There was a language barrier, but after about five hours, the worker was saved and immediately taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Authorities had urged the public to stay out of the area as they worked the scene.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
